A genealogy of the Dam or Dame family of Durham New Hampshire as extracted from the History of Durham New Hampshire and other sources.

  • Dea. John Dam, born in England, 1610, came to Dover Neck in 1633. He married Elizabeth Pomfret, daughter of William Pomfret, and died between 1687 and 1693.
    • Serg. John2 Dam, his son, born 8 Jan. 1636/7, married (1) Sarah Hall, daughter of Serg. John Hall, and died 3 Jan. 1706. He lived at Bloody Point, Newington.
      • John3 Dam, born 23 Feb. 1667/8, married Jane Rowe, daughter of Richard Rowe of Dover. He was deacon in the church at Newington and died in 1730.
        • John4 Dam, born 1695, married, 29 Feb. 1718, Elizabeth Bickford, daughter of Benjamin Bickford of Newington and had among others a son,
          • Joseph5 Dam, born 16 May 1719, who married Mehitable Hall of Dover in 1739. He died in April 1807.

Family of George Dame of Durham, New Hampshire

George6 Dame, son of the last, was born 26 June, 1748 and died 6 March 1823. He married Elizabeth Bennett, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Gilman) Bennett. She died 25 July 1842, aged 97. Children were:

  1. 2 Capt. George Dame, born 24 Aug. 1791; married, 9 Nov. 1817, Sarah Bennett [1]Stackpole gives two different marriage dates for this couple, 14 Nov. 1816 and 9 Nov. 1817. Until I can find an original source for a marriage date, I have left each as is.
  2. 3 Dea. Benjamin Dame born 25 Sept. 1779; married Sally Croxford, 1802.
  3. Mehitable Dame married (1) John Ela, (2) Isaac Brown.
  4. Betsey Dame married David Wiggin, 17 Nov. 1796.
  5. Nancy Dame married John Tuttle. Published 12 Nov. 1803.
  6. Susan Dame married Andrew Wiggin, 1807.
  7. Mary Dame born 1777; d. 4 Nov. 1847, aged 70.
  8. Sally Dame married Walter Wiggin. Published 22 Feb. 1806.

Capt. George7 Dame, born 24 Aug. 1791, married, 14 Nov. 1816, Sarah Bennett, daughter of Capt. Eleazer and Anna (Clough) Bennett [2]Stackpole gives two different marriage dates for this couple, 14 Nov. 1816 and 9 Nov. 1817. Until I can find an original source for a marriage date, I have left each as is., who was born 11 Nov. 1795, and died 29 May 1891. He died 24 June 1838.

  2. Sarah Ann Dame born 8 Aug. 1819; d. 4 Oct. 1854.
  3. Martha E. Dame born 7 May 1822; married 2 June 1850, James B. Blanchard; died 13 March 1899. 3 daughters.
  4. George W. Dame born 29 Sept. 1824; died 22 Jan. 1827.
  5. Mary Helen Dame born 25 May 1827; married 23 April 1862, James Munroe; d. 4 Dec. 1868. He died 25 Jan. 1886. Two daughters died unmarried.
  6. Caroline Dame born 19 Oct. 1829; died 22 Dec. 1885. Unmarried.
  7. Susan Dame born 25 Nov. 1831; died 17 Dec. 1905. Unmarried.
  8. George E. Dame born 11 Nov. 1835. Unmarried.

Dea. Benjamin7 Dame, born 25 Sept. 1779, married, 7 Feb. 1802, Sally Croxford, daughter of Daniel and Mary (Bennett) Croxford, who was born 20 Feb. 1780 and died 26 Sept. 1864. He died 17 Nov. 1847.

  1. Daniel Dame born 9 Dec. 1804; died 28 Jan. 1822.
  2. Sophronia Dame born 19 April 1806; married 26 May 1842, Isaac B. Brown; d. 5 June 1843.
  3. Mary Dame born 13 Oct. 1808; died 28 March 1870. Unmarried.
  4. Joseph Dame born 17 Oct. 1812; died 2 Feb. 1822.
  5. 4 John O. Dame born 19 April 1815; married 30 Nov. 1843, Harriet R. Maddox of Waterborough, Maine.
  6. Benjamin Dame born 1 Oct. 1817; died 18 Feb. 1822.

    4. Arthur Carroll Dame born 26 Aug. 1876, married Nov. 1900, Edith A. Diamond and had daughter:
      1. Priscilla Dame, born 17 Nov. 1901.
  2. Georgianna Dame born 27 Jan. 1851; died 11 March 1872.
